À propos de cet événement

Description

There is a sword form that asks nothing of you except attention. Way of the Sword is a martial arts retreat at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, NY, where blade work, stillness and breath become a single practice. Led by martial artist and spiritual teacher Damien Echols, it invites you to sharpen awareness, refine discipline and discover what it means to move through the world fully present.

Over three days, traditional martial arts meet contemplative practice. Silence and form, stillness and motion, are woven together as a path toward embodying presence. If you have come to see discipline as punishment, this retreat offers another view: discipline as devotion, and the body as a sacred instrument rather than something to be pushed or ignored.

It is designed for spiritual seekers, self-development practitioners and martial artists alike. You do not need to choose between the meditation cushion and the training floor here. Each informs the other.

What to Expect

The retreat begins on a Friday evening and unfolds through daily practice. Days combine zazen (meditation), discussion and training in a Tang Soo Do sword form, taught as moving meditation. Along the way you will explore:

- Guided movement sessions with the bo staff and open-hand forms
- Teachings on the Chil Sung (Seven Star) philosophy of Korean martial arts, offered as a moral and spiritual compass
- Practical instruction in internal alchemy, presence-based ritual and daily self-discipline
- Methods for turning ordinary life into sacred practice through embodied awareness

The aim is to build strength and resilience while learning to bring full awareness to even the simplest movement, so that ordinary action takes on the quality of ritual. You leave with practices you can carry back into everyday life.
